Kitchen outlets acting up is one of those things homeowners tend to put off. It feels minor - until it isn't. This job started with an overloaded kitchen circuit that was causing real problems, and once we got in there, we found more that needed to be addressed.

We updated the kitchen with fresh GFCI outlets, new standard outlets, and replaced the switches while we were at it. GFCI protection in the kitchen isn't optional - it's a code requirement for good reason. Those outlets are designed to cut power instantly if they detect a ground fault, which matters a lot in a space where water and electricity are always close together. Clean installs, everything tested, green light confirmed.

The living room outlet was a separate issue entirely. It had been wired wrong at some point - likely by a previous owner or an unlicensed handyman. That kind of thing doesn't always show symptoms right away, but it's a real hazard sitting behind your wall. Our outlet tester flagged it immediately. We corrected the wiring and got it done right.

That's really what electrical troubleshooting comes down to - not just fixing what you can see, but finding what you can't. Bad wiring hides. The right tools and knowing what to look for are what make the difference between a patch job and an actual fix.

Most homeowners don't think about their outlets until something stops working or trips a breaker. But outlets and switches that haven't been touched in years - especially in older homes - are worth having looked at. Peace of mind is worth a lot when it comes to the electrical in your home.
