Outdoor Patio Gets a Full Electrical Upgrade with GFI Protection

Most backyard patios are underpowered. String lights plugged into an extension cord running through a door crack, irrigation controllers crammed onto a garage wall, no dedicated outdoor outlets anywhere useful. It works until it doesn't - and when something goes wrong outside without proper GFI protection, it can go really wrong.

This setup needed a complete rethink. We added outlets right where they were needed, relocated the electrical so it could serve the space properly, and tied in both the low-voltage system and the irrigation controller with full GFI protection. Everything got its own weatherproof housing and conduit runs along the pergola structure - clean lines, nothing exposed, nothing jerry-rigged.

The conduit work along the pergola beams was done with care. It follows the structure naturally and doesn't fight the look of the space. Same goes for the outlet installation on the post - weatherproof covers, properly secured, with conduit running top to bottom in a way that actually looks intentional. The irrigation and low-voltage controller are housed together in a sealed outdoor enclosure, keeping everything organized and protected from the elements.

GFI protection is non-negotiable for any outdoor circuit. It's what stands between a wet environment and a serious shock hazard. Every outlet we installed here is covered, which means the homeowner isn't just getting convenience - they're getting a setup they can actually trust.
